How AeroGarden Works
Aerogarden is an electronic gadget that works as a soil-less garden and produces healthy vegetables and flowers. It uses its very own "Aeroponics" technology to make this work.
Aeroponics Technology
Aeroponics is basically a spin-off of hydroponics. It is a NASA tested technology (presumably for astronauts to grow vegetables in space) and is simply a plant growing/gardening method using zero soil. The plant roots are suspended in air within a highly oxygenated chamber with 100% humidity.
The roots are soaked in the right amount of water, oxygen and nutrients which makes the plants grow significantly faster, up to five times faster than on soil.
The Aerogarden automatically tells you when to add water and nutrients. There is also a built-in micro-processor which adjusts nutrient delivery and water flow. It also turns the grow lights on and off to simulate sunlight.
The results are plants, vegetables and flowers that are healthier and composed of higher nutrient content.
What Can Be Grown On The Aerogarden
- Salad greens
- Basil
- Radish
- Parsley
- Chili peppers
- Tomatoes
- Mint
- Chives
- Roses
And that's just a fraction of all the plants that you can grow on the Aerogarden!
Size
It measures 16-inches long by 10-1/2-inches wide by 15-1/2-inches high when it is first set up with the lights and at the lowest possible setting. When the plants are fully grown, the overhead lighting can be elevated and measures 21-inches at the highest level.
It is about 2/3 the size of a microwave oven. Many owners just set it on a kitchen countertop.
